I spent a lot of time online countering the lie that the 2020 Election was fraudulent. It only took one link. Am I going to have to do it all again?
As I finish this (2026 July 15) — the president is scheduled to give a speech to the nation tomorrow. Rumors say its going to be about the lie that the 2020 election was fraudulent. So for once, my writing about a topic is well-timed.
The King of Troll-Slayers Retires
I’ve written about how I consider myself a social media commando. Full story here. The short version is that I used to prowl social media in the service of visibility. Wherever a bigot would spout cruelty, I would be visible in my defiance. As many freedom fighters advise: being visible is key to fighting evil.
I still think that’s a worthy cause, and I am thankful for those who pursue it, but I’ve burned out on most social media. I desire to have a quiet mind. When you are endlessly taking in others’ expressions, you have no space to make your own. With the rise of automated content creation, social media has become a chaotic bore-fest. It’s all ads, AI slopaganda, dance videos, and dudes getting banged in the nuts.
Despite my desire to be visible in defending the vulnerable, I’ve bailed on the socials. For fun we can call it PTSD: Post Troll-Slaying Disorder. I thought I could make a positive difference countering stupid talking points. But at this point, it’s unclear if the accounts making those dumb points are even real.
I’ve retired. At least, I thought I had.
My Favorite Link Weapon
During my time in online comment battlefields, I collected a reference library of links. These led to articles by reputable sources that destroyed the talking points broadcast from Jerk HQ. The link I used most is probably going to get another workout after this upcoming speech. Here it is: By the numbers: President Donald Trump’s failed efforts to overturn the election (USA Today).
Team Trump filed 62 lawsuits intended to prove the 2020 Election was fraudulent. They lost 61 times. In sports terms, their record was 1 and 61. Abysmal. You would probably have more success trying to prove in court that up is actually, in fact, down.
Every time I encountered some idiotic comment that the election was stolen, I sent them that link. How do you lose that badly? If you have no evidence. But if you’ve got the proof and the courts won’t accept it, why not make your proof public? The answer is obvious: because you don’t have any. (Though whatever they’ve manufactured may be rolling out after this mystery speech.)
Pushing a Turd Uphill
The funny part of this is that eventually, I came across an article from one of the sources of dumb talking points: The Brookings “Institute.” This article here explains how actually, if you think about it really hard, losing 61 of 62 court cases is a rather good record. A one and sixty-one record is quite good — according to the Brookings Institute. Keep pushing that turd uphill, losers.
I used the “Trump lost 61 of 62 court cases” point so much online, I like to think that I played a small part in pressuring the Brookings Institute to issue their insipid counterpoint. But who knows?
Abuser Behavior
Before the Trump squad elevated crybabyism and the self-victimization of abusers worldwide, people would lament the fact that most Americans never bothered to vote.
But playing the victim is a common abusive-personality tactic. Suddenly in 2020, not only were people voting, but they were voting obsessively. Illegally. Like never before! All to hurt poor wee president man-baby.
What chars my asscheeks most about election lies is that average everyday Americans work hard to help people vote. In 2020, I was one of them. So to anyone out there left who is still falling for this lie, I ask – not that you care but to note it – do you realize you’re insulting your neighbors who volunteer to help YOU?
But then, if awareness and genuine concern were their values, we wouldn’t be here. See you at the speech Thursday (well after for the recaps, I never watch idiots blather live.) And let’s not forget about those pesky Epstein files.
